Unschooling 

This is powerful – and explains exactly why I chose to withdraw Tucker from mass education. The approach is as damaging today as it was with me 35 years earlier.

I didn’t withdraw him because I thought I could do a better job of teaching him. I withdrew him – with his agreement – solely to prevent his spirit from being destroyed in the district’s focus on conformance.

This teacher’s story brought a lot back to me, though I wasn’t in special education because my inability to learn was simply viewed as laziness.
